Ribe, Denmark’s oldest and most charming town

Jacob A. Riis was born and raised in Ribe, Denmark’s oldest and most charming town. It is also the oldest town in Scandinavia, founded as an international marketplace around 700 A.D and today known for its Viking history and Medieval charm. From its magnificent eight-hundred year old Gothic-style cathedral, its brick and half-timbered houses from the 15th to 19th centuries to its cobblestone streets, the town is filled with over 1,300 years of history and over 100 nationally protected buildings.

Kings and queens, bishops and witches, prosperity and disasters; Ribe has experienced it all. We could not think of a better place to honor the most famous Danish – American in history.
